E n\u00e3o \u00e9 um conceito novo. Como muitos outros conceitos da Matem\u00e1tica, as pot\u00eancias surgiram h\u00e1 alguns milhares de anos e como uma necessidade: representar n\u00fameros muito grandes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A pot\u00eancia est\u00e1 associada \u00e0 multiplica\u00e7\u00e3o de um mesmo n\u00famero (chamado de <strong><em>base<\/em><\/strong>) por ele mesmo, tantas vezes quanto indica o <strong>expoente.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Por exemplo, ao contr\u00e1rio de escrever <strong>4 x 4 x 4<\/strong>, podemos usar a nota\u00e7\u00e3o de pot\u00eancia, <strong>4\u00b3<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"446\" height=\"210\" class=\"has-medium-font-size\">De modo geral, a pot\u00eancia \u00e9<em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:30px\"><strong><em>a<sup>b<\/sup> = a x a x a x a\u2026<em> x a<\/em><\/em>,&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">com <strong><em>a<\/em><\/strong> n\u00famero real diferente de zero.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A princ\u00edpio, o c\u00e1lculo de pot\u00eancias considerava apenas expoentes naturais, como 1, 2, 3, etc. Com os avan\u00e7os da Matem\u00e1tica, passou-se a considerar expoentes negativos, zero, fracion\u00e1rios ou decimais, ou seja, n\u00fameros reais.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Vejamos algumas pot\u00eancias caracter\u00edsticas<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A) 2<sup>0<\/sup> = 1, todo n\u00famero elevado a expoente <strong>zero<\/strong>, \u00e9 igual a 1.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">B) 3<sup>1<\/sup> = 3, todo n\u00famero elevado a expoente <strong>um<\/strong>, \u00e9 igual a ele mesmo.<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">C) 1<sup>10<\/sup> = 1, o n\u00famero 1 elevado a qualquer expoente \u00e9 igual a ele mesmo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">D)  Base, elevada a pot\u00eancias podem ser usadas&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">para representar o <strong>crescimento populacional<\/strong> de uma col\u00f4nia de bact\u00e9rias;<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">no c\u00e1lculo de <strong>juros compostos<\/strong>, em que o valor de uma d\u00edvida ou investimento aumenta de forma exponencial;<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">na <strong>inform\u00e1tica<\/strong>, para representar unidades&nbsp; de medida como kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte, terabyte.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">no uso de <strong>nota\u00e7\u00e3o cient\u00edfica<\/strong> para escrever n\u00fameros muito grandes (como a dist\u00e2ncia da Terra ao Sol) ou muito pequenos (como o tamanho de uma c\u00e9lula).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Reveja os conceitos apresentados acima, assistindo \u00e0 videoaula &#8220;Pot\u00eancia:
