A tend\u00eancia para a cria\u00e7\u00e3o e difus\u00e3o de blocos econ\u00f4micos em todo o mundo aconteceu ap\u00f3s o t\u00e9rmino da Guerra Fria, mas a sua pr\u00e1tica come\u00e7ou a ocorrer ap\u00f3s o final da Segunda Guerra Mundial. Inicialmente, os blocos econ\u00f4micos eram tratados como um contraponto, uma oposi\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 globaliza\u00e7\u00e3o. Imaginava-se que a sua forma\u00e7\u00e3o iria potencializar as din\u00e2micas comerciais em n\u00edvel regional e enfraquec\u00ea-las globalmente.
