Esse imenso glaciar cont\u00e9m aproximadamente 70% de toda a \u00e1gua doce do planeta. Devido \u00e0s condi\u00e7\u00f5es clim\u00e1ticas extremas, a Ant\u00e1rtida n\u00e3o possui uma popula\u00e7\u00e3o permanente. As pessoas que transitam por l\u00e1 s\u00e3o principalmente cientistas e turistas que visitam o continente durante o ver\u00e3o, por per\u00edodos determinados.
